Waidhofen an der Ybbs is located on the banks of the Ybbs River in Lower Austria, 60 km from the city of Linz. It is a city of approximately 5,000 inhabitants located in the southeast.
Located in the foreland of the Alps, the city is an important winter sports centre. The 16th-century Town Hall, the 15th-century central church, and the typical 16th- and 17th-century houses are worth seeing. The castle, which was built in the 12th century, belonged to the bishop of Freising until 1803 and to the Rothschild family until 1949. Since then it has been the property of the Republic of Austria.
