What to Know About Krems an der Donau
Krems an der Donau is a city on the banks of the Danube in Lower Austria. An important industrial centre, it is also the transport point for the products of the surrounding fruit and wine centers.
A large number of churches, well-preserved old town houses and the remains of the medieval city wall are the important structures of the city. The city, which was first called Chremsia in 995, gained city status in 1130.
Except for the period between 1849 and 1938, since the 15th century the city has been under a joint administration with the neighboring city of Stein. The population of the city is 24000.
