What to Know About Edirne

Edirne is one of the few cities with the same name as its central district in Turkey. It is located on the border of Bulgaria and Greece. It is not a crowded city in terms of population. It acts as a highway bridge between Turkey and Europe and is our border city. The city center is 7 kilometers from Greece and 17 kilometers from Bulgaria. It is located on the plain where the Edirne, Arda, Tunca and Meriç rivers meet. My continental climate continues. Selimiye Mosque, which Mimar Sinan calls "my masterpiece", is one of the most important historical buildings in this city. In addition, Üç Şerefeli Mosque, Old Mosque and Dar-ül Hadis Mosque are the most important historical monuments of Edirne. In addition, there are churches of Christian culture and a synagogue of Jewish culture in Kaleiçi. This synagogue is the largest in Turkey and the third largest in Europe.

Saray- Cedid-i Amire, known as Edirne Palace, was one of the largest known palaces of the Ottoman Empire after Topkapı Palace in Istanbul. Only a small part of the palace has survived to this day. Restoration work was started for the palace in 2008 and is still ongoing.
