What to Know About Giresun

Giresun, a Black Sea city that combines green and blue, is one of the cities to go to to relax. The issue of who the city was founded by or which states it hosted has not been fully clarified, but as a result of the researches, it is seen that the Turkish presence prevailed in these lands.

It is thought that money started to be minted in the Roman Period in the region where the findings left by the Roman Empire are also found. It is said that Giresun passed under Byzantine rule after the Romans. Emir Süleyman Bey, son of Hacı Emir Bey, conquered Giresun in 1397 and the region was Turkified.

Although it seems that Giresun's Turkification took place during the reign of Mehmet the Conqueror, this is actually not true. The Turkification of the region started a long time ago, but Giresun officially joined the Ottoman lands during the reign of Mehmet the Conqueror.

There are two different climates in Giresun. The part of the region on the Black Sea side shows the characteristics of the Black Sea climate. There is heavy rainfall in all seasons and there is a warm weather. The part in the Kelkit Basin has the characteristics of the continental climate.
