The name of the city, which changed from Parthenia to Bartın, comes from Parthenios. It is said that Bartın first came under the rule of Gaska, then lived under the rule of the Hittites and then the Paphlagonians. Bartın, which came under the rule of many more states after these times, was included in the Ottoman lands in 1461.
Bartın was within the borders of Bolu Sanjak, which was ruled by the Ottoman Empire between 1460-1692. Bartın, which was connected to Kastamonu in 1811, became a district in 1867. The city, which was connected to Zonguldak as a district in 1920, started to be counted as a province in 1991 after long struggles. Bartın has 4 districts, 9 municipalities and 260 villages. The city, which changed hands for years, finally managed to stand on its own feet.
Located in the Black Sea Region, Bartın is dominated by the Black Sea climate, namely the temperate maritime climate. While summers are hot in Bartın, winters are cool. In the parts where the mountains are parallel to the coast, the temperature difference decreases and the humidity increases.
Forest areas in the city are very rich in plant and tree species. With its forests in which various wild animals grow, Bartın has the most interesting forests in Turkey. While forests cover a large area in the vegetation of Bartın, they generally consist of broad and coniferous trees. These forests, which contain many tree species, cover Bartın with a beautiful greenery.
