What to Know About Aksaray

The city, which was separated from the province of Niğde in 1989 and gained the status of a province, is adjacent to Konya, Niğde, Nevşehir, Ankara and Kırşehir. It is one of the important cities of Central Anatolia with a population of nearly 400 thousand. While it was called Archeleos in the Hittite tablets found in the region, it was transformed into the Turkish language as Aksaray with the entry of the Turks into Anatolia and has been called by the same name for about a thousand years.

The mounds within the borders of the city shed light on the history of both the country and the city. Archaeological studies in Acemhöyük and Aşıklıhöyük reveal that there were Assyrian trade colonies and there are remains from the Bronze Age.

The city of Aksaray has a great importance in terms of historical tourism. It is home to many works such as mosques, churches, tombs, inns and museums.
