What to Know About Ege
Aegean Region is one of the seven geographical regions of Turkey. It takes its name from the Aegean Sea, on which it is located. It is divided into two parts as Aegean (Original Aegean, Coastal Aegean) and Inner West Anatolia (Inner Aegean). It is surrounded by Marmara in the north, Central Anatolia in the east, Mediterranean regions in the south and the Aegean Sea in the west. It is the region with the longest coastline in Turkey. The borders of the region are Kaz Mountain, Madra Mountain, Simav Mountains and Dominiç Mountain in the north; Turkmen Mountain and Emir Mountains in the east; Karakuş Mountain and Göreli Mountain in the south; starting from Bababurun of Çanakkale in the west, all coastlines of Edremit Bay, İzmir and Aydın provinces and in Muğla, excluding Köyceğiz, from north to south to the coast of Köyceğiz.
Plains: Grabens between horsts in the Aegean part are alluvial plains. These are Bakırçay, Gediz, Büyük and Küçük Menderes grabens. These grabens are shown in green on a physical map. It consists of the Menemen Delta plain at the mouth of Gediz and the Balat Delta plain at the mouth of Büyük Menderes.
