What to Know About Akdeniz

The Mediterranean Region is one of the seven geographical regions of Turkey. It stretches along the Mediterranean coast in the south of Anatolia. Its width varies between 120–180 km. There is the Aegean Region in the west and northwest, the Central Anatolia Region in the north, the Southeastern Anatolia Region in the east and the Mediterranean in the south. It borders Syria from the southeast. As in other regions of Turkey, in the Mediterranean Region, the boundaries of the region and the provinces with administrative units do not completely coincide.

The terrain of the Mediterranean region is quite mountainous and rugged. The Taurus Mountains determine the main lines of the landforms of the region. Located on both sides of the Antalya Gulf, the Western Taurus Mountains converge and converge in the Lakes Region in the North. The Western Taurus Mountains, appearing in the west of the Teke Peninsula, extend to the Taşeli Plateau.
