Ntchisi is one of the 28 counties of the African country Malawi. Ntchisi is located within the Central region, one of the three regions of the country. The central city of the district is the city of Ntchisi, which has the same name as the general of the district. The district is adjacent to Nkhotakota district in the east, Kasungu district in the northwest, Salima district in the southeast and Dowa district in the south.

Farming and agriculture makes up eighty percent of the local economy with a couple of the leading crops being beans and potatoes. Forestry, irrigation and livestock herding are other fields, since the economy has very little private industry and the government employs most of the people. At the turn of the 21st century, the poverty rate was about seventy-five percent.
