It is one of the important cities of Central Anatolia with a population of nearly 400 thousand. While it was called Archeleos in the Hittite tablets found in the region, it was transformed into the Turkish language as Aksaray with the entry of the Turks into Anatolia and has been called by the same name for about a thousand years.
