Kilis, located in the transition zone between the Mediterranean and Southeastern Anatolia regions of Turkey, is 10 kilometers from the Syrian border and 58 kilometers from Gaziantep. Kilis, which has a strategic importance in terms of the region, was under the domination of the Kingdom of Aleppo in 1460 BC, then it was kept under control by the Hittites, Alexander the Great, Macedonians and Seleucids. After the Turks who controlled the region in the 8th century, the region passed into the hands of the Ottoman Empire with the expedition of the Abbasids and Yavuz Sultan Selim on 23 August 1516.
