About Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia Postal Codes
If you are filling out a Saudi Arabia address, use the 5-digit postal code that belongs to the exact district or delivery area. Saudi addresses can also include a building number, street, district, additional number, and sometimes a short national address code, so the postal code should not be guessed from the city name alone.
A realistic Riyadh address would look like this: Building 8228, King Fahd Road, Al Olaya, Riyadh 12214, Saudi Arabia. For central Riyadh areas such as Al Olaya, codes starting with 12 are common, but 12214 is not a safe code for all of Riyadh. A nearby district, a newer suburb, or an outer delivery area can have a different 5-digit code even when the city is still Riyadh.
A soft way to read Saudi postal codes is this: Riyadh often starts with 1, Makkah region with 2, Eastern Province with 3, Madinah and Tabuk areas with 4, Qassim and Hail with 5, Asir and nearby southern areas with 6, and northern regions with 7 or 8. That helps spot obvious mistakes, but it is practical guidance, not an official street-level rule.
Saudi Post’s SPL national address tools are the best practical source for checking the exact code, and the UPU addressing guidance for Saudi Arabia shows the postal code as part of the locality line, along with detailed address elements used for delivery.
So if a form only gives you “Riyadh,” do not automatically type 12214. Use the district, street, building number, or National Address details if you have them. For deliveries, the district name and building number can matter as much as the postal code, especially outside the central areas.
