The province occupies the northeastern portion of the Puno Region, bordering Bolivia to the east and encompassing territory along the western shores of Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake. Huancané covers approximately 2,805 square kilometers of rugged Andean terrain characterized by high-altitude plains, rolling hills, and deep valleys, with elevations ranging from around 3,800 to over 4,500 meters above sea level.
