What to Know About Southern Region

The Southern Region is one of the three existing regions of the African country Malawi. While the southern region is the second largest region of the country in terms of surface area, it is the largest region of the country in terms of population. The region is adjacent to Mozambique in the west, south and east, and with the southern part of Lake Malawi and the Southern Region in the north.

The administrative capital of the region is Blantyre, which is also the country's second largest city. The region is also divided into thirteen districts within itself, and these districts are listed from north to south as follows: Mangochi, Balaka,
Machinga, Neno, Mwanza, Blantyre, Zomba, Chiradzulu, Phalombe, Mulanje, Chikwawa, Thyolo, Nsanje.

Malawi's southern third is the most populous and economically developed. There is a wide variety to experience in Southern Malawi, dominated by Blantyre and physically dominated by the great Shire Valley and Mount Mulanje, and home to a number of National Parks and Wildlife Refugees including Lake Malawi National Park.
