Nkhata Bay is a city in the state of Malawi, located on the African continent. The city is a settlement located in the Northern Territory in the northern part of the country. According to 2013 estimated population data, 12,219 people live in the city. According to the official census results conducted in 2008, 11,260 people were living. Nkhata Bay is the central city in the district of the same name, and is a frequently visited spot by MS Ilala, which has a port and is the operator of Malawi sea lines due to its location on the edge of Lake Malawi.
Nkhata Bay is located at the northernmost point of Lake Malawi, which David Livingstone reached during his expeditions through Africa 150 years ago.
